Investigating a Haunted Ghost Cabin in Bend, Oregon

A Paranormal Investigation in the Deschutes National Forest

The cabin which sits deep in the Deschutes National Forest is believed by its owner to be a haunted cabin in Bend Oregon, This investigation began when my brother and I were contacted by a friend of his who asked for help understanding the strange activity at his rental property. The cabin is located outside Bend, Oregon, deep within the Deschutes National Forest.

Before our investigation began, the owner shared several unsettling experiences that had occurred inside the cabin. Among the most concerning were electrical anomalies and unexplained cold spots throughout the property. While the cabin itself is old, it had recently been fully remodeled and brought up to modern building codes, making these occurrences difficult to explain through normal mechanical issues.

Even stranger were the experiences reported by the owner and his girlfriend. One night, she woke suddenly from a vivid dream involving a wolf and a Native American child. In the dream, the child tapped her on the head and told her to leave the cabin. The dream felt so real that it left her deeply unsettled.

Adding to the mystery, the owner’s teenage daughters admitted they had previously been experimenting with a Ouija board inside the cabin. During one session, they claimed to have contacted a malevolent entity that identified itself as “ZOZO.”

The Legend of the Zozo Entity

For those unfamiliar with the name, Zozo is a figure frequently mentioned in paranormal circles and Ouija board lore. According to various accounts, Zozo is believed to be a demonic entity that communicates through spirit boards. Some legends claim it may even be one of the fallen angels, though this remains unverified and highly debated within the paranormal community.

Zozo is often said to mimic the voices of the dead who the user of the Ouija board wishes to talk to. He is a cruel, sadistic demon who likes preying on people’s insecurities and fears such as delighting in telling them they will die soon. He even mimics other spirits, oftentimes pretending he is three different spirits at once.

Ghost Adventures Travel Channel did an investigation in an Oklahoma home in Season 10 ep 3.

Darren (Homeowner): “Two nights later I heard my dogs growling in the bedroom where I sleep and they were staring at the door… the glass was scratched/etched with something sharp from underneath… and there was no mistaking the letter Z in that etching.” 

During the investigation, the board reportedly spelled out “ZOZO” multiple times, along with unsettling messages such as “Kill” and “Goodbye.”

He can play on psychics, for instance, if a psychic is adamant that there are only two ghosts in the building, Zozo will confuse them by claiming there are nine ghosts instead. He will also add confusing scenarios by stating he is the ghost of a little boy ghost and that he is afraid of a malevolent spirit haunting the place

Whether these stories are folklore, psychological phenomena, or something more mysterious remains a topic of debate. However, hearing that the entity’s name had come up during sessions at the cabin certainly added another layer of tension before we even arrived.

Our October 2025 Investigation

Our investigation of the Hughson Cabin took place in October 2025. We spent the evening exploring both the cabin itself and the surrounding forest that borders the property.

The atmosphere of the area was immediately striking. The dense woods surrounding the cabin create an isolated environment where sound carries strangely through the trees. Even before beginning our equipment setup, the location felt unusually quiet.

During the investigation we documented the cabin interior, monitored temperature fluctuations, and explored the surrounding forest trails looking for possible explanations behind the reports.

I have included several still images from that night’s investigation below. Some of the photographs are admittedly grainy or slightly out of focus, largely due to the extremely low light conditions. At the time, I was using my Nikon DSLR camera, which struggled in the darkness.

Since then, I have upgraded my some equipment and now use a full-spectrum night-vision video camera with infrared capability, which will significantly improve shooting investigations in low to no light.
